- Important
Information -
Any driving instructor taking a fee for
instruction must, by law, be registered with the Government's Driving Standards
Agency and display the Driving Standards Agency licence (see
example on left) inside the windscreen. Make sure that your instructor is
displaying such a licence and look for the colour.
There are two qualifications for Driving
Standards Agency driving instructors:
-
PDI (Potential Driving Instructor) A
Pink Licence means that the instructor has not yet
passed the final Driving Standards Agency exam of instructional ability
and is a trainee and therefore not fully qualified.
-
ADI (Approved Driving Instructor) A
Green Licence shows that the instructor
has passed all the DSA exams and is therefore a registered Driving Standards
Agency Approved Driving Instructor.
Some driving schools,
including large national schools, employ trainee (Pink Licence) driving instructors!
Make sure that you ask before you sign any agreements! If they can't guarantee
to supply a fully qualified instructor you should try to negotiate a smaller fee.
NB If your driving instructor is
charging a fee and doesn't display or have a licence and you suspect he/she may
not be qualified, you should report this to the Driving Standards Agency.

Logbooks
and CD ROMs
I
consider that a record of the client's lessons is essential. Without this record
it is almost impossible to keep up with each individual client's progress and
requirements. The DorWey logbook consists of 30 pages which include progress
charts and comments pages. You will also find that the logbook contains all the 'Tell and Show' questions
(and answers) - two of which will be asked
at the beginning of the Practical Test. At the end of each lesson the logbook is
updated, showing what has been achieved and notes of any problems that will have
to be addressed during the following lessons. The DorWey logbook is an integral
part of the course.
The logbooks have a one-off cost of £5 each.
-
Pass Plus is a Driving Standards Agency
scheme that encourages newly qualified drivers to gain more experience under the
guidance of an Approved Driving Instructor. The benefits include lower insurance
premiums and ADI guided driving experience in new areas and more demanding
situations.
-
Pass Plus takes the newly qualified driver
out of the Dorchester/Weymouth area, onto the motorways near Southampton and
then into the Bournemouth/Poole conurbation. The course can be completed in six hours.
-
During the Pass Plus course the client
will be encouraged to navigate by using maps, direction signs and the TomTom Go
satellite navigation system.

*DorWey Price Pledge
When a pupil starts a driving course at
DorWey the price is guaranteed not to be increased, providing
that:
-
They take less than 10 months to pass
their test.
-
There is not a rapid increase in
fixed costs such as fuel. If fuel prices or other fixed costs do increase
significantly then lesson prices will only rise to cover the extra costs and no more.
Furthermore, if prices are dropped to
attract new customers all existing customers will have their prices lowered to
the same level!
