Logbooks and CD ROMs

I consider that a record of the client's lessons is essential. Without this record it is almost impossible to keep up with each individual clients progress and requirements. The DorWey logbook consists of 30 pages, which include progress charts and comments pages. You will also find that the logbook contains the main points of each lesson and information about the 'Tell and Show' questions asked at the beginning of the Practical Test. At the end of each lesson the logbook is updated, showing what has been achieved and notes of any problems that will have to be addressed during the following lessons. The DorWey logbook is an integral part of the course.

The logbooks are laminated with comb binding and have a one-off cost of £5 each.

Hazard perception CDs are available for free loan. A £10 deposit is required - refundable on return of the CDs.

- Important Information -

Any driving instructor taking a fee for instruction must, by law, display the Driving Standards Agency licence (see example on right) inside the windscreen. Make sure that your instructor is displaying such a licence. Look for the colour.

  • A pink licence means that the instructor has not yet passed the final  Driving Standards Agency exam of instructional ability and is therefore not fully qualified.

  • A green licence shows that the instructor has passed all the DSA exams and is therefore a registered Driving Standards Agency Approved Driving Instructor.

  • Some driving schools, including large national schools, employ trainee (Pink) driving instructors! Make sure that you ask before you sign any agreements! If they can't guarantee to supply a fully qualified instructor, try to negotiate a smaller fee.

Automatic Car

  1    hr lesson = £22
  1.5 hr lesson = £33
  2    hr lesson = £40
  3    hr lesson = £59

Please note that automatic lessons are given by an associate driving instructor who is not employed by or connected to DorWey Driving School. All contracts and arrangements will be between the client and that instructor.

GIFT VOUCHERS

PASS PLUS

  • Pass Plus is a Driving Standards Agency scheme that encourages newly qualified drivers to gain more experience under the guidance of an Approved Driving Instructor. The benefits include lower insurance premiums and ADI guided driving experience in new areas and more demanding situations.

  • Pass Plus takes the newly qualified driver out of the Dorchester/Weymouth area, onto the motorways near Southampton and then into the Bournemouth/Poole conurbation. The course can be completed in six hours.

  • During the Pass Plus course the client will be encouraged to navigate by using maps, direction signs and the TomTom Go satellite navigation system.

PASS PLUS PRICES

  • For customers who learn to drive and pass their test with DorWey - £24 per hour.

  • For others - £26 per hour.

DorWey TRAINING MODULES

  • Training Modules are £7 to hire for the duration of the course. Unfortunately, due to the high cost of producing them (over 100 laminated pages, many of them illustrated), we have to ask for a £25 deposit (a total of £32). The £25 deposit is, of course, refundable as soon as the Training Modules are returned. It is not compulsory to use the Modules; in fact the majority of driving schools don't offer this level of support. On the other hand I believe that the Training Modules are not only a great help to the student's understanding of the subject but will also allow them to arrive at their driving test sooner.

THEORY TEST

  • In the majority of cases it should be unnecessary to pay an instructor to help with the Theory Test. For most the Theory Test is just a matter of studying and reading the right books. Some with special needs may require assistance but friends and relatives will probably be willing to help. If there is no alternative I will happily assist and I am always ready to answer any specific test-related questions during the driving lessons.

  • With DorWey Driving School training for the Hazard Perception Test starts almost from the first lesson. Students are taught to recognise hazards and build them into their ‘driving plan’. (In fact hazard perception was a keystone of DorWey training well before the Hazard Perception Test was introduced into the Theory Test.) To supplement the practical instruction CD-ROM’s, containing the Hazard Perception Test video clips, are available for free loan.

  • Information and advice about both the tests, including which books to read, will be offered during the first driving lesson.

INTENSIVE COURSES

Intensive courses can involve teaching one pupil for four or five hours every day, over a period of one to two weeks. Because of the time involved intensive courses can result in regular, longstanding, pupils having to give up their normal times or maybe even having to miss a week. This is obviously unfair and therefore DorWey doesn't offer such courses.

*DorWey Price Pledge

When a pupil starts a driving course at DorWey the price is fixed until they pass their test providing:

  • That they take less than 10 months to pass their test.

  • That there is not a rapid increase in fixed costs such as fuel. If fuel prices or other costs do increase significantly then lesson prices will only rise to cover the extra costs and no more.
