Hello, I'm Paul Pearson and I am the owner and driving instructor at DorWey Driving School. As you may be thinking about contacting me to teach you (or a relative) to drive, I think that it is important you should know something about me.
After completing twelve years in the Royal Navy I joined the Dorset Fire and Rescue Service as a firefighter. During this time I passed the driving tests for Heavy Goods Vehicles, Emergency Driving Courses and Off-road Courses, that permitted me to operate and drive all the brigade's vehicles, from the Land Rovers to the Turntable Ladders. I also passed the examination for and became a member of the Institute of Advanced Motorists
In 1995 I was asked to be one of the Brigade's three instructors on the Simon's Aerial Ladder Platform. In the same year I successfully completed the Simon's Access Instructor Examiner Principles Course and the Brigade's own Instructors' Course. My duties as an instructor involved me in the writing of student notes, setting up and organising courses, instructing the courses, setting the questions for the students' final written examinations and designing the practical examinations. I also acted as an examiner during the other instructors' courses.

As I found this instructing aspect of my work both challenging and rewarding I decided that on retiring, at the relatively early age of 55, I would invest this experience in setting up my own driving school. To achieve this, I studied for and passed the Driving Standards Agency three-part examination for Approved Driving Instructors.
To gain experience I first worked for
another driving school and then in 2002 I branched out and set up my
own business -
DorWey Driving School.
Driving
School Pro is another driver training business that I am involved in. This has been set up in
partnership with a driving instructor colleague. Together we have written and
published a set of books for driving instructors called Graphic Briefings.
These volumes rely heavily on illustrations to make the lessons more interesting
and easier to understand. Many instructors throughout the United Kingdom have
purchased Graphic Briefings and we use them
extensively in our own lessons and clients tell us that they find them very
helpful.
We have also written the Driver Instructor Business Guide and designed and produced the Driving School Logbooks . All these products can be purchased through our joint web site - Driving School Pro .
I have been married for 27 years to Lin, a Staff Nurse at Westhaven Community Hospital. I have a stepdaughter Jane (a teacher), who is married to Rob, and a granddaughter Sophie.
